This newspaper publication and partner website features an interview my team and I had with a frat boy named Nick. On November 5, 2023, Nick kindly sat down with a group of strangers at a table filled with Wendy’s sauce packets and fancy tableware.
Prior to the interview, Nick was just another frat boy named Nick. Through our conversation we got to learn what Nick does first thing in the morning, what his name means to him, what music makes him cry, and what parts of his life exist beyond his labels.
Through some type, illustration, and code we were able to create an editorial design system that captured the excitement, organic quality, and awkward humor of a conversation between strangers and simply getting to know another person.

KEY FEATURES
We brought our unique typesetting style to the web by intentionally leaving black space to scroll through, representing pauses in the conversation. We animated the text boxes to fade in as if each line is being spoken. Nick’s dialogue fades in from the left. Our interjections fade in from the right.
Lastly, there’s a pull out menu on the side to help you jump to different questions in the conversation.
A “live” timer that goes back and forth in time with your scroll.
Animated Illustrations triggered by
scroll throughout the text.
“Nick” is fixed on the screen, filling in the blank of all our third person style questions.
The option to play the original audio from our interview, so you can hear Nick’s voice as you read the text.
An animated landing page that invites you to start the conversation by taking a seat at our interview table.
MORE ABOUT OUR EDITORIAL DESIGN SYSTEM
I apologize, I’m still working on uploading this project to my portfolio! In the meantime here’s a link to our full process.
